Job Criteria and Description
Job Criteria:

Between the ages of 16 and 30.

Canadian Citizens, Permanent Residents, or a person to whom refugee protection has been conferred.

Valid S.I.N. number.

A passion for WWS’s mission and a keen interest in conservation, along with a sincere interest in wildlife rehabilitation.

Ability to manage the emotional aspects of euthanasia, personally and professionally.

Must be able to read, write, and speak clearly in English so that written and verbal instructions can be given and followed.

Rabies pre-exposure vaccination series not required but preferred.

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds safely.
Job Description/Responsibilities:
-
Prepare, clean and maintain the indoor and outdoor enclosures of wildlife patients
-
Admit and/or quarantine sick, orphaned and injured wildlife patients into the facility
-
Communicate with finder(s), providing resolutions and best conservation practices for conflict situations
-
Assist with treatment of injured wildlife, i.e. wound management
-
Prepare and feed specialized diets to a large variety of different species
-
Hand feed and support orphaned and compromised animals
-
Update and maintain patient charts and database records
-
Answer telephone inquiries, educate and help resolve human-wildlife conflicts
-
Assist in the rescue, capture and release of sick, orphaned or injured wildlife

Maintain a safe, clean and organized working environment.

Work closely with staff, volunteers, and other interns in a supportive manner. Treat all team members with respect.
Position Summary:
This internship is highly practical from start to finish, and interns will perform all daily wildlife rehabilitation tasks and responsibilities.
Working conditions can range from hot, cold, wet, or dry to dirty, smelly, and even messy or gory, with long hours on your feet.
Mentorship from senior volunteers and rehab staff will be provided, and interns are expected to work both independently and as part of a team.
We rehabilitate approximately 850 animals annually, including birds, mammals, and reptiles. WWS does not rehabilitate bears, wolves, moose, or raccoons. Only individuals with a rabies pre-exposure vaccination or an acceptable titer within the past two years may work with foxes, coyotes, bats, and skunks.
Work Hours:
Work hours are typically 5 days with 35-40 hours per week.
WWS is open from 8 am to 9 pm.
Assigned day, evening, weekend, and holiday work hours will alternate with other interns.
Wages:

$18.00 - $18.50, depending on contract position
